Slamdance Film Festival Favorite "DINNER" To Premiere On Sci-Fi Channel

Filmmakers David Tarleton and J. Ayscue announced the television premiere of their latest film "DINNER", scheduled for October 4th on the Sci-Fi Channel.

"DINNER" will play on the Sci-Fi Channel original series "Exposure", which highlights short films of exceptional merit. The film premieres October 4th at 10pm EDT / 7pm PDT.

"DINNER" had its world premiere at the Slamdance Film Festival in January, 2000, in Park City Utah. It was the only live action film featured in the animation program. It opened to critical acclaim and was well received by festival audiences. Since Slamdance, "DINNER" has gone on to play at numerous other festivals.

The film has been distributed on DVD by IndieDVD, and was recently released on FUSION ONE, a collection of short films, which can be purchased on Amazon.com. Simply select DVD and type in the keyword "fusion".

Film Synopsis:

"DINNER" is set in Los Angeles as written by the Brothers Grimm: fairies shoot smack, a troll gives up his bridge to run a convenience store, and a human falls in love with the daughter of a witch and might become dinner if he's not up to the task of fitting in with her family.

David Tarleton (Director / Co-Writer / Producer) says of the film: "I think a lot of people only think of the Disney version of fairy tales, and not how dark they are in their original forms. I set out to make a modern fairy tale that evoked the dark, primal, horrifying image of the woods, combining it with the way I felt living in downtown Los Angeles."

J. Ayscue (Producer / Co-Writer / Actor) adds: "The original impulse to tell this story came about as a realization that the fairy tales we tell in the United States are immigrants themselves - there is no true widespread indigenous tradition of fairy tales in this country. We tell stories from Europe, or, like Paul Bunyon or Santa Claus, stories started or perpetuated as advertisements. So we tried to personify that idea of fairy tales as immigrants."

Tarleton further notes: "At the same time, it was important to me to humanize the characters, make them real. And for the film to be fun."

"DINNER" tells the story of JACK (Terry Tocantins), who is in love with JILL (Carey DiPietro), the daughter of the Russian cannibal witch, BABA YAGA (Shannon Welles).

Jack gets invited to the Midsummer's Feast at Baba Yaga's. Jack gets to meet her whole family, who happen to be flesh-eating monsters. While asking for Jill's hand in marriage, Jack must prove himself worthy, or else he'll end up as the main course.

The film took two years to complete, and was finished only days before premiering at Slamdance.
