The Photographist

A Tale of Light and Shadow

An all-greenscreen digital short inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's 1847 story "The Shadow," made with live actors against virtual sets.

Set in a fantasy steampunk version of the 1880s, The Photographist follows Lorna Mann, a struggling artist determined to find newspaper publisher Henry Baron, convince him to publish her photography, and make her name. One night, standing on her balcony, her Shadow separates from her and escapes into the world.

When the Shadow returns, it wants to reverse their roles, with the Shadow as master and Lorna as the shadow. Realizing the evil her Shadow has done, Lorna vows to destroy her. The film breaks new ground in the integration of live action and animation. It is currently in post-production.
